Confusing categories

[edit]

Right now, there is a rather confusing situation regarding the categorization of churches in the Gothenburg area. I will try to explain it here: The category for the whole of the municipality of Gothenburg (or the City of Gothenburg as it is also called) is simply called Göteborg. A few levels below you find Churches in Göteborg Municipality for all churches in that municipality. As a subcategory of Churches in Göteborg Municipality you find this category, Churches in Göteborg. Furthermore, Churches in Göteborg Municipality is also a subcategory of Churches in Göteborg, thus creating a cycle, completely contradictory to what is said in this guide.

The scope of this category (Churches in Göteborg) is probably all churches within the urban area (Swedish:Tätort) of Gothenburg, which covers part of three municipalities, Göteborg, Mölndal and Partille.

My suggestion for a solution to all this, is renaming this category to Churches in Göteborg (urban area), and make it a subcategory only of a new category called Churches in Sweden by urban area, thus breaking the category cycle. Churches in Göteborg Municipality should also be removed as a subcategory of this category, since only part of the municipality is actually withing the urban area. I think this is the best way to clarify the distinction between the two categories and to keep the category tree "in shape". --Zejo (talk) 21:11, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

To introduce a category "Churches in Sweden by urban area", with its subcategories, seems to me to be a good idea. I prefer clearly defined parallell categories to confusing circles of categories with subcategories at the same time being parent categories. / Achird (talk) 22:16, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, but to avoid confusion and improve searchability I think there need to be a top link in each category, briefly explaining the difference and linking the trees together. /Dcastor (talk) 12:52, 7 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
