Confusion about Pearce's "Beheading of St. John the Baptist"

[edit]

Under the heading "Media in Category Charles Sprague Pearce," a study held by the Brooklyn Museum is labeled "Decapitation of St. John. . . ." It should be labeled "Study for," as it is not the completed work. The finished work "The Decapitation of St. John the Baptist," a drawing in pen and gouache, is held by the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. (I did not see a way of editing this myself.)

This kind of misinformation gets copied on other sites on the Internet, leading to confusion and difficulty for researchers and authors who believe the information in Wikipedia is accurate. Pretty soon it becomes impossible to find an authoritative source among all the instances on the Internet of copied "facts." 2601:5C2:200:4510:F840:A89A:77A1:7164 15:35, 24 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
