Category talk:Capacitor components

@Djiboun: , what is the intended purpose of this category? word-by-word it seems like "capacitor components = parts of a capacitor" (two plates, two wires and dielectric), but current contents are just photographs of capacitors. Of course, capacitors are electronic components themselves, but it's handled by inclusion in category:Electrical parts and components. Moving photographs into category:Capacitor components and leaving parent category almost empty - seems highly redundant. Regards, Retired electrician (talk) 20:13, 27 May 2018 (UTC)
- and it seems like there's already a minor war about categorizing subcategories. Could you perhaps explain your vision how the whole structure should look? Also, @Te750iv: . Retired electrician (talk) 20:15, 27 May 2018 (UTC)
- I would support this category, as a diffusion of Category:Capacitors, although I too looked sideways at this particular name. A disambiguation would have been better, such as Category:Capacitors (components) and I'd support renaming it to that. Andy Dingley (talk) 22:17, 27 May 2018 (UTC)
- Diffusion is better handled by categorizing by appropriate dielectric type, i.e. File:0.047μF capacitor.JPG, formerly in Category:Capacitors, but clearly marked as MKT type, belongs to Category:Film capacitors. Perhaps by connector type (through-the-hole, SMD, screw terminals, HV, large industrial). Anyway, the number of files is quite small for a wholesale diffusion. - Something like this:
- Capacitors
- Capacitors by dielectric
- ... (film, lytic, ceramic...)
- Capacitors by mount type
- ... (tth, smd, hv ...)
- Capacitors in situ
- History of capacitors
- Leyden jars
- Capacitor diagrams
- Capacitor graphs - Retired electrician (talk) 07:30, 28 May 2018 (UTC)
- Capacitors by dielectric
- Capacitors
- my first thought was: what about simply "by type" instead of "components"? apart from that, thanks for starting the discussion, and the good (more detailed) suggestions @Retired electrician. --Te750iv (talk) 08:47, 28 May 2018 (UTC)
