Even though there's a clear warning not to upload pictures of buildings that still have copyright, there still are loads of pictures of brand new Estonian buildings uploaded here. It would be nice to have special template to tag those files or files that are suspicious. Hluup (talk) 23:22, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, correct, cause text of the law says, that you can't upload only copyrighted buildings which are works of art. But lot of modern buildings uploaded here are not art value at all, so they can be used absolutely free cause of copyright missing.
Also, I've made the remark to Túrelio, who deleted lot of modern municipal buildings, which can't be copyrighted by their nature due art details missing.
So, please, don't mix up works of art with municipal property. Thanks, Dmitry G (talk) 13:32, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No, they have no copyright. Use those photos free. So we need to rewrite text in the template as soon as it possible. Only buildings with individual design are copyrighted. But thanks to all for conversation! Dmitry G (talk) 13:41, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Template

[edit]

Please, put more correct text to the template. Due to Estonian law copyrigted are buildings which were designed and built by special order only. It's not mean all modern buildings, but only some modern buildings which are protected by it's architect's copyright. Thanks, Dmitry G (talk) 13:32, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It may be so that certain buildings are not copyrighted, but valid arguments are needed to rewrite the template (eg cite the law). Estonian copyright act itself (the link above) unfortunately doesn't tell about some buildings (such as built by special order) being not copyrighted. I will revert unclear clarifications on subcategory pages. See also #Estonia. Pikne 07:46, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

Template in every category about buildings?

[edit]

{{FOP-buildings-category warning}} should be in every category about buildings in Estonia; having it in just one category (here) is pointless, when people still upload photos of Estonian architectural works without being aware of restrictive rules/laws wrt FOP in Estonia. -Mardus (talk) 04:14, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

w:et:Kasutaja:Mardus/Eesti arhitektide tabel — Several incomplete tables (in Estonian) of Estonia-related architects, their years of death, whether their works can be considered Public Domain or not, and on which year a late architect's work can be expected to become Public Domain. The list is incomplete and does not take works for hire into consideration. The tables should help in deciding the copyright status of some photos depicting works of architecture located in Estonia (by and large). -Mardus (talk) 17:29, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's strange that the template does not even mention the possibility that the copyright owner might give explicit consent to publish a picture of their work under CC. If you ask an architect (or whoever holds the copyright) and file their written consent under OTRS, everything should be ok. Instead, the template classifies these cases under the "Photographs taken of other buildings can be deleted without further warning." category.
