Categorization?

I'm adding categories to blank maps so that they show up in this category. All well and good. But I then noticed that some of the maps are in two categories e.g. "Blank maps" and "Blank maps of Africa". Now, I think it's a Commons thing that things should appear in the lowest applicable category, so I started removing the "Blank maps" category from blank maps that were already in a lower blank map category. For example, if a map was in "Blank maps" and "Blank maps of Europe", then I removed the "Blank maps" category from that map but left it in the "Blank maps of Europe". Now as I said, I think that's Commons policy but it occurred to me half-way thru that it might be considered rude or presumptive. So I'm leaving this message here to see if it's OK to continue.
