Silver bezants ?

[edit]

I agree that, in French, a roundel is called besant if made of metal (either or or argent) and tourteau otherwise.

But in English, there is a different name for each tincture: a bezant is a gold roundel and nothing else (see e.g. the Pimbley's Dictionary of Heraldry or the English Wikipedia). Thus, silver bezants are nonsense.

As the name of this category is written in English, the blazons with roundels argent should not belong to it but to an other category Plates in heraldry. Or just rename it Metallic roundels in heraldry (or something like that).

Agreed, that's what the sources say, and it would make the classification easier as well. I'll start categorizing the bezants (gold) and then move on to the plates.-- Darwin Ahoy! 20:19, 13 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
