I have a problem with this category. Thames barges are e.g. a special type of barges. The Danube, Meuse and Rhine don't have special types, alle ships with Danube-, Rhine- and communautair certificates can be found there. So this category is not consistent. Better is to categorise: Barges on the (river). Category:Barges on the river Rhine will be a big one. --Stunteltje (talk) 10:41, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your "problem" is evidently why you're now edit-warring over this at Category:Severn trows, where you're removing images of boats built specifically for the Severn, and photographed on the banks of the Severn. Andy Dingley (talk) 23:14, 4 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
My reverting of the category:Ships by river has nothing to do with your mentioned geography, but by the system of naming categories. The category is used for ships on a certain river, not for types of ships. You are adding "A painting showing West Indiamen alongside Bristol docks on the Avon." and "Merchant shipping is shown in the Bristol Channel, off the mouth of the Avon" to the Severn, and in my opinion that is a wrong use of the category. Wikipedia locates the Severn not as the Avon (Bristol). "This one-mile canal in Gloucestershire runs inland from the River Severn to Lydney." is also not the Severn itself, but I can live with that. --Stunteltje (talk) 11:29, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
