Category talk:Astronomical maps
Sorting into Category:Maps
[edit]- Category:Maps - is that correct?
- Category:Maps by theme - should be done..
So, mayby we should precise for
- starcharts (including earthbased and satellite) images, which are not to be sorted into Category:Maps (see Category:Satellite pictures, Category:Aerial photographs) – but resembles Category:Maps by type
- planetary "geo"graphy - which is Category:Cartography, but not Category:Earth sciences
- and maps concerning astronomical themes on earth (as locators for observatories) - which are Category:Maps by theme without restriction
- but Category:Maps of astronomical bodies ist sorted into Category:Maps by theme - what is a “astronomical body” (Halley? M31? 3C273? the Great Wall? ISS?)

Star sky orientation map (Proposal)
[edit]In my opinion, many users with a beginning interest in astronomy will feel the need for a simple orientation on everynights star sky. One could figure a system like the old astrolabes. For a great part of the earth would suffice a circular disk, containing the stars that can be seen at 45 degrees north latitude. By letting this slice turn below a window according to the local time of the observer, it will show its momentary sky. If the possiblity is left to add the constellation names in the different languages, it would be a generally usable tool. For the southern hemisphere, a similar approach could be used, whereas for the more equatorial areas a moving ribbon shaped map would do the job. It is a pity, that I cannot do it myself. --Pyt (talk) 22:03, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
