I do not think that someone searching for images about Apartheid is likely to be looking for images of Palestine. I suggest that this category should be a subcategory of Category:South Africa, not of the Israel and Palestine categories, and that its use should be reserved for the particular policy named "Apartheid". Fine with me. However, right now the category contains over one hundred photos, and they all are indeed palestinian photos. Unfortunately, I have neither time nor tooling to edit all of them to change the categorisation. I've just put some text and some categorisation in it, because I feel like something's wrong when I see such a polulated category on a wanted list. If you have better idea of dealing with the issue, go ahead, edit the category text and change it as you feel fits. Obviously, South Africa solution would be as wrong as the current one, because it would still use the word "apartheid" in a specific way, not just as racial segregation. It might be a tad better, though. Yet again, feel free to edit it without owing me an explanation. --spider 00:17, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

You are clear that "Apartheid" is an Afrikaans word for the particular historical policy of South Africa, right? I'm not being snide; I am open to the idea that the word has expanded in English usage without my knowledge to include all racially-segregated forms of government. I do note that en:Palestine does not contain the word "Apartheid", however. Jkelly 00:23, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

I have to admit that "Apartheid" is not one of the words I use on a daily basis ;) However, it does mean what you point out in Dutch (which is a language I'm fluent in, and a very close one to Afrikaans). The etymology is just "the situation/position of being apart", and occasionally people do use it in that meaning as well (I can provide some links if you can read Dutch). The Webster dictionary which is thicker than my laptop bag also defines it as (racial) segregation, that's where I got that funny idea that it does not necessarily concern South Africa. And yes, I admit I have never heard that word in the same sentence with "Palestine". --spider 12:44, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
