Sinan?

[edit]

I very much doubt if, as some people have done, this building or a predecessor can be attributed to Mimar Sinan. He is mentioned as the architect in an article in the Turkish Vikipedi’s Wikidata Infobox. The text of that article makes no mention of Sinan, whoever created the Wikidata Infobox must have thought or known “better”. The mosque is also in the Commons category “Mosques by Mimar Sinan”. However, a notice on site does not make any mention of Sinan. I publish it in Commons. Trying to find more I found it is in an extensive article on the web (mentioned as a source on Vikipedi also) (https://islamansiklopedisi.org.tr/orta-cami ), claimed to be built in 1527. The article also states (translated) “There is no information about the architect of this first building, which was learned from Evliya Çelebi that it was high but not domed.” I know from several sources the first mosque in town by Sinan reputedly is the Üç Baş Mosque. I found the date of 1532-3 for the latter as being stated on its foundation inscription above the gate. So here we would have a mosque built five years before the first mosque by Sinan in town, not mentioned in any article except for the Wiki ones in Vikipedi and Commons. I have seen the mosque myself, and the current one most certainly is not by Sinan. The article mentioned states “Although it seems difficult that it survived the fire of 1918 that devastated the district, it is possible that today's building, which was built in the first national architectural period, was handled by Architect Kemâleddin Bey or his students due to its style.” I take a gamble and delete it from the Sinan’s list on Commons. I am unable to check further and then maybe take out the architect in the Wikidata Infobox. I agree with the statement on the Vikipedi page (translated) “Additional sources are required to verify the information in this rticle. Please help improve the article by adding reliable sources. Unsourced content may be challenged and removed.” I do challenge. Dosseman (talk) 17:31, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
