Zhanshi Huakan is a publication, part of Liang You (良友), a Shanghai magazine with the alternate English title, "The Young Companion."[1] After the Japanese attack on Shanghai on July 7, 1937 (destroying the current issue of Liangyou/The Young Companion in the attack), the magazine staff produced war materials, including (potentially) 20 issues of 战事画刊 (the Chinese characters on the magazine's flag, transcribed Zhànshì huà kān in Pinyan, which literally translate as "war paintings" ).[2]
