Biography from his website, translated

Born in the town of Ouezzane, Morocco, on March 17, 1942, the painter and sculptor, Youssef Benjelloun, studied Applied Arts at the Casablanca School, following which he exhibited his 30 hand-cut sculptures. Member of the first association of Moroccan painters, Y. Benjelloun opened his graphic design firm in 1966, then, a few years later, flew to Europe and the USA to complete advanced training courses. Since then, his visual performances have multiplied in different galleries and visual events, culminating in 1985 by a major individual exhibition at the Bab Rouah gallery. His enthusiasm for associative work motivated him to create, in 2005, the “Union Marocaine des Arts” Association, whose primary objective is to help artists express themselves, each in their specialty.

The year 2007 marked the artist's career with the award of the Silver Medal which he received from the Academy of “Arts-Sciences-Letters” in Paris.
