Yellow Cab & Coach Manufacturing Company, founded in 1915 in Chicago, was an American bus, taxi cab, and automobile manufacturer. Coaches were sold under the Yellow Coach label, and taxi cabs as Yellow Cab, which is not the same as the many labels that still are in use by many taxi cab operators in many countries. Manufactured cars were the Ambassador, and the Hertz. In 1923, a new subsidiary named the Yellow Truck & Coach Manufacturing Company was organized. In 1925, General Motors bought a controlling share of these companies, moved cab production to Pontiac (Michigan) in 1928, and formed the General Motors Cab Manufacturing Company as a GM division reporting to GMC in 1930. GM became the sole owner in 1943. While continuing the product line, Yellow Truck & Coach became a part of GMC in 1944, and the vehicles were sold as GMCs. Production ended in 1987.
