Deutsch: Die Yawl ist ein Segelboot, sie ähnelt der Ketsch, nur steht hier der Besanmast, der auch Treibermast genannt wird, außerhalb der (Konstruktions-) Wasserlinie und ist in der Regel deutlich kürzer (max. 50 % des Großmastes) als der der Ketsch.

English: A yawl is a sailboat with two masts. The mizzenmast is located well aft of the main mast, often right on the transom, specifically aft of the rudder post.

If the mizzenmast is forward of the rudder post, the vessel is a ketch. If the forward mast is shorter than the aft mast, the vessel is a schooner.

Français : Le yawl est un voilier à deux mâts dont l'implantation du mât d'artimon, de plus petite taille que le mât principal, se situe à l'extrême arrière du pont, derrière l'axe de rotation du safran.

Nederlands: Een yawl is een zeilschip met twee langsgetuigde masten, de achterste, de (bezaan)mast, is klein en ver naar achteren geplaatst, achter de positie van het roer. Het is de vertaling van het Nederlanse "jol" dat is echter een benaming voor verscheidene scheepstypen.
