English: Wu Zhen (1280-1354 C.E.) was a painter during the Yuan dynasty of China. He followed the Dong Yuan school of painting. Following along with trends of the time, Wu's works tended less toward naturalism (i.e. painting exactly what the eye sees) and more toward abstraction, focusing on dynamic balance of elements, and personifying nature. His painting The Central Mountain, dated 1336, is perhaps his greatest work and shows his style very clearly. It is a symmetrical image, with one large mountain in its center and others to each side. The mountains have rounded tops, and in fact all of Wu's lines in this painting are smooth, curved and flowing. The painting is a reinterpretation of traditional landscape paintings as it brings abstract style and brushwork to landscape, primarily to create a work focused on balance. (→en:Wu Zhen)

Norsk bokmål: Wu Zhen ( forenklet kinesisk: 吴镇, tradisjonell kinesisk: 吳鎮, pinyin: Wú Zhèn, født ) var en maler under Yuan-dynastiet i Kina. Han fulgte Dong Yuan-skolen innen maleri. I pakt med trendene på den tiden tenderte Wus verk mindre mot naturalisme (det vil si å male akkurat hva øye ser) og mer mot abstraksjon, fokusert på dynamisk balanse av elementene, og personifisering av naturen. Maleriet hans Det sentrale fjellet, datert 1336, er kanskje hans beste verk og viser veldig klart hans stil. Det er et symmetrisk bilde, med et stort fjell i sentrum og to andre på hver side. 中文：吴镇性孤介，一生清贫，曾在村塾教书、并卖卜于武林等地。但他博学多识，工书法，善草书，能诗文，绘画善水墨山水画，师法巨然，用长披麻皴，兼以斧劈，笔力劲爽，墨气淋漓，写出山川林木峥嵘郁茂之景，改变了巨然“淡墨轻岚”的风格。也画松竹，亦挺拔有致。尤其重视画面题咏书法与绘画风格的协调统一。他的画善用老笔湿墨，笔力雄劲，墨气沉厚，题咏诗文较多。画墨竹笔意豪宕，生意满纸；画古木、怪石挺劲有力。明清两代书画家均受他很大影响。 (→吴镇)
