English: In 1958, the Boston & Albany mainline east of Route 128 was sold to the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority to allow the construction of the Massachusetts Turnpike Extension. In 1961, the third and fourth tracks were removed, and construction began. The Turnpike opened to Beacon Park (Allston) in 1964 and downtown Boston in 1965. Today, the two-track mainline runs parallel to the Turnpike, with several stops adjacent to the highway.
