wiener tafel is the Viennese (Austria) NGO collecting food which otherwise would be discarded, and caring to distribute it to the poorest.
An often quoted fact is, that, for customer's convenience, who should be allowed to by all sorts of fresh bread even in last minutes of supermarket's opening hours, the quantity of discarded bread, in Vienna, day-after-day, totally equals the amount of bread which is eaten in Graz on one day.
"Tafel", ironically, is the upper-class term for table. They write it in lower case.
The 'wiener tafel' motto is versorgen statt entsorgen, which would translate distribute, do not discard.
