Warrior and Wounded Youth (also known as The Warrior and the Wounded Boy) was modelled in 1875 by William John Seward Webber (1842-1919) while a student at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, England. A marble copy of the group was commissioned in 1878 by Thomas Holroyd (1821-1904). The older man in the sculpture is Hercules (Heracles); Hercules is identified by his attribute - the skin of the Nemean Lion, which he wears on his back.
This marble sculpture formed part of the Holroyd Bequest, which Holroyd left to Harrogate Corporation in 1904. The marble sculpture was in Harrogate library until at least 1925. Harrogate Borough Council no longer possesses this sculpture.
