The restaurant at the southeast corner of Lafayette and Tilghman Streets, was originally opened by Frank Reeser in May 1937 as Reese's Ice Cream and Luncheonette. Located at 1918-1926 Tilghman, Reese's originally was an ice cream parlor and sandwich shop. It leater became a Pennsylvania Dutch cuisine, as well as a short order grill menu, changing its name to Reese's Restaurant in 1938. It is notable that no alcohol was sold. It closed in August 1942, when Frank Reeser entered the Armed Forces during World War II.

The property was purchased by Americo Volpe, who renamed it Volpe's Restaurant, selling Italian and American food to the current day. Americo Volpe passed away in 1984, his family still operating the restaurant as Volpe's Sports Bar.

The building likely dates to 1938 when Frank Reeser opened his restaurant. It has been expanded along Lafayette Street over the years.
