Italiano: Villa di Nerone a Olimpia
English: Named after the brief residence there of the emperor, Nero, during his competition in the chariot race of the 211th Olympiad, 67 AD. Before then it was a burned building, probably a temple of Hestia, as it extends into the Stoa of Hestia. Nero walled it off from the sacred precinct and built a private house of uncertain destiny. The current form dates to the 3rd century AD, when a large Roman villa was built over it of 30 rooms, one of which was octagonal, hence the name "the octagon." The villa extended into the bed of the Alpheius.
