̈ The Arab diplomat ibn Fadlan writes about the Vikings' quest for silver: "When he has accumulated 20 000 dirhams, he has two neck rings produced. For every subsequent 10 000 dirhams, he gives a neck ring to his wife. This means a women can wear many neck rings".
