en: Vichama is one of various archaeological sites not far from Lima that reveal the social and cultural practices of pre-Columbian societies. The site is located in present-day Huaura province which is only two and a half hours from Lima and about one hour from Caral. The Vichama site itself sits on roughly 136 hectares of land and there are 12 known mounds (large, medium, and small) that show evidence of domestic living and ceremonial imagery. It is only a couple of kilometers away from the ocean and is very impressive. They would have been around roughly the same years as Caral from 3000 BC to 1800 BC (also known as the Late Archaic period). This site was only found in 2007 by Peruvian anthropologist, Ruth Shady, and there still remains a lot to research about it. The environmental ritual myth Vichama Raymi did not create any ceramics, lithics or metals. However, they did create many head carvings from clay and instruments made from animal bones. There is still much to research about the rituals that they had and the direct correlation between the drought and ceremonies. The myth of Vichama explains the origin of men and women, domesticated plants, social classes, the rocky coastline, and veneration of monoliths. The myth of Vichama was collected by a Jesuit priest, father in Barranca antique by Luis teruel 1617, and reinterpreted by fray antonio de la calancha (1638). Revival of the myth of Vichama began in 2002. after a presentation on the myth at a conference in paramonga during the fiestas patrias national holiday in July 2002 by arturo ruiz estrada (1979; ruiz estrada and Haas n.d.). The staging of the environmental myth-ritual takes place on July 28 in the Paramonga fortress.
