Italiano: La famosa statua della Venere kallipige (da kalòs = bello; e pyghè = sedere) è una replica romana di un originale ellenistico di II sec. a.C., rinvenuta a Roma nella Domus Aurea, facente parte della Collezione Farnese, oggi esposta nel Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli (inv. 6020). Il nome attribuito erroneamente a questa statua, si riferiva invece in antico ad un'altra statua esposta in un tempio a Siracusa. Questa opera, per il suo carattere malizioso e leggero, viene inquadrata nel cd. "rococò ellenistico". La dea, in procinto di bagnarsi, solleva la pesante veste e si volge indietro per guardare la sua splendida nudità posteriore che si rispecchia nell'acqua. Seppure integrata dall'Albacini nella testa e nella spalla, tuttavia l'immagine è corretta come ci viene attestato da gemme e statuette in bronzo.
English: The famous statue of Venere kallipige (from kalòs = beautiful; and pyghè = behind, bottom) is a Roman replica of a hellenistic original of the 2nd century B.C. It was rediscovered in Rome in the Domus Aurea, and is part of the Farnese Collection (Collezione Farnese), which is now exhibited in the Archeological Museum of Naples (Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli (inv. 6020). The name which is erroneously given to this statue, referred in antiquity instead to another statue shown in a temple in Siracuse. That work is placed in the context of the so called hellenistic rococo (rococò ellenistico) style because of its mischievous and light character. The goddess is about to take a bath, lifts her heavy dress and turns back to observe the splendid nudity of her bottom which is reflected in the water. Although Albacini (Carlo Albacini (1734 — 1813), sculptor and restorer) replaced the head and shoulders, the statue is correct as confirmed by gems and statuettes in bronze.
