The Venkat Bihari temple monument is a c. 18th-century Vishnu temple ruins to the northwest of Rani Mahal in Kalinjar Fort. It illustrates Bundela architecture and Hindu temple design with many elements of Chhatris, Rajput and Maratha style. The core elements such as mandapa, antarala, circumambulation path, and garbhagriya were retained, but domes and umbrella-like observation chhatris were added. These reflect the generational loss of traditional skills, texts and knowledge of Hindu architecture, and a shift in competence retained by shilpins and artisan schools. The 18th century Bundela, Maratha and Rajput Hindu temples in central India adopted the skills that had developed, were retained and readily available near the end of the Mughal era and the start of the colonial era.
