English: Vegetated hummocks; "Þúfur (vegetated hummocks) and stone polygons. Ice expansion not only causes lifting of the soil but also results in pressure laterally which causes the soil to push upwards in a hummocky pattern. Repetition of this movement results in þúfur on grass covered ground (...) and stone polygons on unvegetated ground.", cited after Þorleifur Einarsson (Reykjavík 1994): "Geology of Iceland. Rocks and landscape.", p.130.
Íslenska: Þúfur
