English: The Main Post Office in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada was opened on March 14, 1958 with Public Works Minister Howard Green and Postmaster-General William Hamilton officiating. Containing a post office and the city's mail processing plant, the building covers an entire city block, bounded by Homer, Hamilton, Dunsmuir and Georgia streets. At the time of its construction, it was the largest welded steel structure in the world. A two-kilometre long tunnel was also built as part of the project, linking the Main Post Office to the CPR railway station. Shortly after completion, mail began to move by air rather than rail and so the tunnel was never used. Similarly, the helipad on the roof has never been used. Designed by noted Vancouver architects McCarter, Nairne and Partners.
