Vanadis (ship, 1874)

The Russian barque “Vanadis” of Jakobstad, Finland, was en route to Fleetwood with a cargo of timber from Darien, Georgia, USA, when she was in Half Moon Bay, Heysham, in 1903. “Vanadis was built in 1874 at Jakobstad, 185 ft overall with a beam of 35.1 ft and weighed 1.100 tonnes. She originally ran aground on Sunderland Bank, a sand bar at the mouth of the River Lune. Floating off the bank in 1904 she drifted past Heysham Harbour, and came to rest in Half Moon Bay, Heysham.
