English: "Upper Ferry" refers to the part of the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia where the Spring Garden Bridge now stands, just below the Fairmount Dam (next to Museum of Art in Fairmount Park). As early as 1683, a ferry operated at this point. Since 1812, four different bridges have been built at this site:
- Colossus Bridge (Upper Ferry Bridge, Collossus at Fairmount) (1812/13-1838)
- Wire Bridge at Fairmount (1841/42-1875)
- Callowhill Street Bridge (1874/75-1964)
- Spring Garden Street Bridge (1965-current)
