Basic consonants
The diacritics used for some consonants in the middle (similar to a dot) or above (similar to an acute accent and to the tone mark used above some vowels) their base glyph are not productive in the Toto alphabet, they are not encoded separately as combining marks.

The Toto script initially included an obsolete sign used as a glottal stop between two identical vowels pronounced distinctly rather than as a single long vowel, similar to the GA letter without its vertical connection stroke, it has still not been encoded and been replaced for common use by a regular apostrophe letter.

The diacritics in the middle (similar to a dot) or below (similar to a grave accent below the base glyph to mark its breathiness) the glyph for some vowels are not productive in the Toto alphabet, they are not encoded separately as combining marks.

Tone mark
The Toto sign for the rising tone (similar to an acute accent above the base glyph) is encoded as a combining character, it should occur only after Toto basic vowels, or after a base symbol or space; do not confuse it with the diacritic used on some consonants and not encoded separately. This rising tone is noted on vowels only where it is semantically distinctive in the Toto language from the lower tone. The lower tone is never noted by any sign.

There is no sign for marking long vowels, which are noted instead by redoubling them. Diphtongs are noted as separate vowels, without any additional sign.
An initial proposal for encoding also included a combining mark for the breathiness sign to be used on vowels but it was not necessary as all useful combinations were encoded distinctly.
Other characters
The script does not feature decimal digits, regular Western Arabic digits or Bengali digits are used instead; as well, there are no distinctive punctuation signs, common Western punctuations (or sometimes Indic punctuations) are used instead.
