Language
[edit]All maps should only contain language neutral information.
File names
[edit]All file names should be as language neutral as possible. All have the same prefix, which is "UTC hue4map" (old is "UTC offset map rygcbm", will be renamed). For files specific to countries existing after 1974 the ISO 3166-1 alpha 3 code is included. If a time is given it is written in ISO 8601 and given after describing the location.
Characters should only be letter, numbers, "_", and "-".
Basic schema: UTC hue4map<location><time>.<file extension>
Colors
[edit]The offset from UTC in minutes is equated to the en:hue. After 360 minutes or 6 hours, the hue will be the same. Hue can also be calculated as hue= 4 * longitude.
UTC+0 has hue=0, which is red (e.g. #FF0000) and UTC+1 (60min) has hue=60, which is yellow (e.g. #FFFF00). The even hours will use RGB and the odd hours will use CMY. That is the full hours are represented by color using 6 hues.

If areas with same hue need to be distinguished on a map, then S or V are varied. E.g. Russia has some zones that have a difference of 6 hours, therefore have the same hue, but varying S or V allows to differentiate the zones.
Variation of hue
[edit]- Hue is not equated with longitude since then all maps in one region would have similar colors which are hard to distinguish.
- Shows the basic offset within 6 hours.
Variation of saturation
[edit]- S=100 gives the highest contrast. So this is used as the base value.
Variation of value
[edit]- V=100 gives the highest contrast. So this is used as the base value.
- V=80 is used for maps in America to indicate that a region uses DST.
