National Archives Identifier 62283397: Glass Slides of the Russian Civil War, 1919 - 1919: "This series consists of lantern slides taken by George F. Zimmer in 1919. Zimmer documented people in the cities as well as rural areas. These images depict him with Army Colonel Stanislav Bulak-Balakhovich on the front lines of the Russian Civil War in the Pskov region of Northwest Russia. Images include a letter signed by Herbert Hoover, who was then the head of the United States Food Administration, asking that George Zimmer be allowed to pass freely while in Russia. A letter from Bulak-Balakhovich is also included and attests to the truth of Zimmer's photographs. Images include photos of the front lines with Bulak-Balakhovich's Army, executions, and starving Russian citizens."
