The southern section connects the West Entrances of Yellowstone National Park (concurrently with U.S. Route 20 [US 20] and U.S. Route 287 [US 287]) with Yellowstone National Park (north of the West Entrance). The northern section connects Yellowstone National Park (even farther north of the West Entrance) with Saskatchewan Highway 4 in Canada.
