Nederlands: Een timpaan is de bekroning van een gevel, venster of ingang, meestal in de vorm van een driehoek of een halve (spits-)boog, vaak versierd met reliëfbeeldhouwwerk. Hij stamt uit de Middeleeuwen of daarvoor.
Een fronton is hetzelfde, maar dan jonger, uit latere tijden.
