Tumulus C at Bayındır Village exposed the method of cremation employed in Phrygian burial customs and the finds that survived the fire, such as cauldrons, griffin protomes, animalshaped gold jewellery, bronze bowls, iron weapons and harness materials, were not only quite foreign to the usual type of objects of Mediterranean archaeology, but also intimated the next season's striking collection of finds, the artifacts from Tumulus D. Some finds shown here were formerly in "Greek" categories, but may be more at home as "Phrygian".
