English: Luba-Kasai, also known as Tshiluba or Ciluba (in its own standard spelling),[1] Bena-Lulua, Luba-Lulua[2] or Luva, is a Bantu language (Zone L) of Central Africa and a national language of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, alongside Lingala, Swahili, and Kikongo ya leta. An eastern dialect is spoken by the Luba people of the East Kasai Region and a western dialect by the Lulua people of the West Kasai Region. The total number of speakers was estimated at 6.3 million in 1991.
Français : Le luba-kasaï, aussi appelé tshiluba écrit ciluba (selon l'orthographe standardisée), ou luba-lulua[3], ou kikasaï (surtout au Katanga), est une langue bantoue du Congo-Kinshasa ayant le statut de langue nationale dans la région du Kasaï. Elle est parlée dans les provinces Kasaï-Oriental et Kasaï-Occidental.

Notes

[edit]
  1. The noun-class prefix ci is used for languages
  2. "Luba-Lulua", in this context, does not refer strictly to the L31b Western dialect spoken by the Lulua people.
  3. Luba-lulua, dans ce contexte, ne se réfère pas strictement au dialecte occidental L31b parlé par les Lulua.
