"The trumpet was captured just outside Constantinople [Adrianople, 1915?] in 1919 when the Bulgarians and Turks gave up & I carried this Trumpet right to the time I was discharged from the army." [L/Cpl CA Wright of the 7th Battalion Oxford & Bucks Light Infantry].
Donor enlisted in Oxford Varsity Battalion in 1914 as a bugler boy (7th or 71st ? Battalion of the Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. "In 1919 when the Bulgarians retired I caught up with the Bulgarians & saw one of the soldiers carrying this trumpet when I secured it & brought it home, which for a Boy Bugler to snatch this trumpet was the best souvenir I could wish for. This trumpet has the Bulgarian crest on the bell of this which is a ramping [rampant] Lion with the crown which to my way of thinking was making the instrument unique."
