A lifting jack capable of lifting its load on a small toe, protruding from the side of the jack and very close to ground level. This allows the jack to be used for lifting loads that are already on, or close to, ground level. They are often used for railway work, lifting rails.
Usually hydraulic and a form of bottle jack, but older designs used ratchets.
