English: The bust, by Albert G. Power, is dated 1919, but the monument was not unveiled until 1927. The inscription notes Kettle's death at the battle of Ginchy and also includes the last lines from his poem To My Daughter Betty, The Gift of God: "Died not for flag, nor King, nor Emperor/But for a dream, born in a herdsman's shed/and for the secret Scripture of the poor."
