English: The Sentinel is a statue of a standing Union soldier of the line by Randolph Rogers (1825-1892). It was the first civil war memorial by Rogers and was sculpted in 1864 in Rome, it was cast in bronze by Ferdinand von Miller in Munich in 1865. Costing $25,000 and funded by public subscription It was unveiled in section 23 of Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati as a memorial to fallen Cincinnatians.
