English: The Conquest of Space monument is a gift from the Soviet Union to the United Nations. Inaugurated on 20 July 1971, it is dedicated to the success of man in the conquest of space. The arrow-shaped plinth (28 m high) is formed from Ukrainian stone covered with a layer of titanium used in the construction of spacecraft. The bronze statue of the cosmonaut in a spacesuit expresses the desire of humanity to penetrate outer space.
Español: El monumento La conquista del espacio es un regalo de la Unión Soviética a las Naciones Unidas. Inaugurada el 20 de julio de 1971, está dedicada al éxito del hombre en la conquista del espacio. El zócalo en forma de flecha (28m de altura) está hecho de piedra ucraniana recubierta con una capa de titanio, utilizada en la construcción de naves espaciales. La estatua de bronce del cosmonauta en traje espacial expresa el deseo de la humanidad de penetrar en el espacio exterior.
