English: Apparently the founders of the monastery found enough flat space at the top of the rock to suggest that they level it and begin with a flat artificial terrace on which they constructed an ecumenical village. The terrace is multi-level. It must also have been used to collect rain water, which was siphoned into as many as three storage tanks below the surface. They gardened the remaining flat space, but as there was no or little soil, they placed the plants in large pots.
