The Tararua steel ladder serves as a help to overcome a difficult piece of a mountainous ridge trail, the Tararua Main Range.
With 72 galvanized rungs it gets over a height of about 22 m, some 15 minutes from the Maungahuka Hut.

It replaced 2002 an elder chain ladder with wooden steps.
