The monument is a renamed bronze replica of a wooden figurehead of Tamanend now located in the Naval Academy Museum. He was a peace-making chief from the Philadelphia region. Tecumseh was an unrelated warchief from Ohio more suitable in fame to modern war-whooping sports victories. The plaza in which "Tecumseh" is located is "Tecumseh Court," the main court before the grand staircase into Bancroft.
