Sungai Utik is located in the north-west of Kapuas Hulu, roughly 75 km away from Putussibau, West Kalimantan. The longhouse of Sungai Utik is relatively old and quite big with large porches inside and outside. The inhabitants of Sungai Utik belong to the Iban tribe. An important fact about Sungai Utik is that the inhabitants preserve their forest and they do not have any ambitions to change this. They live with and in their environment without destroying it. In 2008 they received the Sustainable Forest Management Certification for Kampung Sungai Utik community. People of Sungai Utik are always happy to welcome guests and it is possible to stay at Sungai Utik for one or more days. There is a lovely small River close to the longhouse where you can take a bath (“mandi”) – for women it is recommended to bring a Sarong!

Sungai Utik longhouse is situated close to the main road, which leads to Lanjak and further to Badau. You can reach Sungai Utik from Putussibau by bus with destination either to Badau, Lanjak or Benau Martinus, which runs in general on a daily basis. The journey takes approximately 1 ½ hour. The buses depart from the central bus station of Putussibau where you also can buy the bus tickets. You need to leave the bus at Sungai Utik. From the main road it is just a short walk on a small road on the left hand side. If you intend to visit Danau Sentarum national park through Lanjak or Betung Kerihun National park through Sadap you may consider on your way a stop by at Sungai Utik, for one or more days.
