American architectural firm consisting of partners Bertram Dudley Stuart, Jr. (1886-1977) and Arthur Wheatley (1886-1943). Originally independent architects when arriving in Seattle in the 1910s, they worked together from 1923 to 1930, where they specialized in apartment building design, with a fair share of single family homes and commercial buildings and even a few industrial projects in between. Following the dissolution of their partnership Stuart would continue to have a successful career throughout the Great Depression and well into the 1960s, finally retiring at age 86 due to failing eyesight. Wheatley's solo career quickly fizzled out after 1931 and he would pass away a decade later after suffering years of failing mental health. The majority of the buildings they designed together still stand today, with several listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
