English: A half-mile horse racing track was established at the farm by John George Burckle, who bought the property in the late 1860s. The farm was sold in 1889 to Nicholas Stenger; the farm remaining in use by the family until 1960, with the track in use much of that period. The town bought the property for a park in 1979; it was relatively wild until 1991, when the town cleared brush after two boys were nearly killed by three teenagers in a pond.
