English: The Statue of Liberty was a statue that was situated in Hanoi on three different locations. First it was situated across the Hồ Hoàn Kiếm on the current location of the Lý Thái Tổ monument, but was replaced there by a statue of Paul Bert. It was then moved on top of the Turtle Tower. Its presence there was heavily criticised and it was nicknamed Madame Saux by anti-colonialists as the presence of a statue of the Goddess Liberty in a country that just lost its independence was seen as ironic.

Its third and final location was at the old Neyret Square, today the small square next to Cửa Nam Street (South Gate Street), where the locals nicknamed it Bà Đầm Xòe (The lady spreading her skirt).

It was finally destroyed in 1945, after the Government of the Nguyễn Dynasty revoked the French Protectorate Treaty creating the Empire of Vietnam they installed Trần Văn Lai (陳文來) as mayor who ordered the removal of all French symbols from the city. (Source).
