Français : Statue de Joseph François Dupleix (1697-1763) sur la plage de Pondichéry. Dupleix quitte Pondichéry en 1754, mais la reconnaissance française de sa contribution ne vient qu'en 1870, avec la commande de deux statues, l'une à Pondichéry et l'autre en France. Le monument est maintenant situé sur l'avenue Goubert, au bout sud de la Promenade. Elle a été inaugurée le 16 juillet 1870. Dupleix est représenté avec une perruque et de longues bottes d'équitation ; dans sa main droite se trouve un plan de Pondichéry, sa gauche reposant sur la poignée de son épée. En 1979, la statue a été déplacée de son emplacement précédent à l'emplacement actuel sur la plage.
English: Statue of Joseph Francois Dupleix (1697-1763) at Puducherry Beach. Dupleix left Pondicherry in 1754, French recognition of his contribution came only in 1870, with the commissioning of two statues-one in Pondicherry and the other in France. It is now situated in Goubert Avenue at the end of Promenade Beach. It is first installed on the 16th July 1870. Dupleix is represented as a man of commanding stature. In the large nose and massive under jaw, some
resemblance may be traced to Oliver Oromwel as commonly represented in his portraits. In the statue, Dupleix wears a Curt dress with bag wig and long riding boots; In his right hand is a plan of Pondicherry, his left reposing on the hilt of his sword. In 1979 the statue was moved from its previous location to the current location at the beach.
