Station building street side. Railway station opened in 1871. Old station building remodelled in 1970. Good sheds built in 1909, renovated/remodelled in 1984. Gyula received a railway in 1871 with the opening of the railway line by the Alföld–Fiume (Great Hungarian Plain-Rijeka) railway company. On the occasion of the 125th anniversary of this event, a commemorative plaque was placed on the track side facade of the railway station main building Alföld–Fiume Railway (1871–1996) plaque by Sándor Návay (1996 bronze) Ten same plaques-reliefs installed for the anniversaire at stations: Algyő, Békéscsaba, Csorvás, Hódmezővásárhely, Kötegyán, Orosháza, Sarkad, Szeged.. all of these shows a steam locomotive on the Algyő railway bridge - Gyula, Békés County, Hungary.
