Category:Stanislaw Walery
Count Stanisław Julian Ostroróg (1834-1890) was a Polish Crimean War veteran, born in Mohylewo, Lithuania. He became a British citizen in 1862, and set up a studio first in Marseille around 1868, then in Paris and finally in London, in 1883. Stanisław Ostroróg used the pseudonym of Walery which he adapted from his wife's name, Waleria. After his death in 1890, his son en:Stanisław Julian Ignacy Ostroróg (1863-1929) continued his father's work, in partnership (between 1890-1900) with Alfred Ellis to become Ellis and Walery. Walery, senior, is known for his famous portraits of Queen Victoria among other celebrities.
The younger Count Ostroróg used the same and other pseudonyms, Lucien Waléry, and Laryew in Paris in the period 1900-1929.
